The System: Seamless Integration & High Performance
This project focuses on aesthetics without compromising on power. The use of an integrated mounting system allows the solar array to replace a section of the roof tiles, providing a “new-build” look for this established Eaton property.
Solar Array: AIKO Neostar 2S (460W)
We installed 12x AIKO Neostar 2S All-Black panels, delivering a total peak power of 5.52kWp.
- Bezel-Less Aesthetics: The Neostar 2S features a unique “no-busbar” front and a bezel-less edge. When installed as an in-roof system, it creates a flat, uniform black surface that is virtually indistinguishable from the roof at a distance.
- Market-Leading Efficiency: With 23.1% efficiency, these panels generate more power per square meter than almost any other panel on the market, making them ideal for the fixed dimensions of an in-roof array.
- Partial Shading Optimization: AIKO’s Gen 2 technology is specifically engineered to maintain high output even if sections of the array are temporarily shaded by chimneys or nearby trees.
Power Management: Fox ESS KH 6kW Hybrid Inverter
The system is managed by the Fox ESS KH 6kW, the latest single-phase flagship from Fox.
- Smart Energy Balancing: This inverter intelligently directs solar power to the home first, then the battery, only exporting to the grid once the 10.4kW storage is full.
- High-Current Performance: Designed for modern homes, the KH series supports rapid battery charging, allowing the 10.4kW battery to be filled quickly during cheap off-peak hours.
- Silent & Robust: With an IP65 rating and a fanless design, the unit operates silently, making it perfect for installation in a utility room or garage.
Energy Storage: Fox ESS EP11-H 10.36kWh Battery
For energy storage, we selected the EP11-H, Fox’s premium slimline battery solution.
- Self-Heating Technology: The “H” denotes a built-in heating element. This ensures the battery can charge and discharge at full speed even during freezing Norfolk winters—a critical feature for units installed in unheated garages.
- Space-Saving Design: At just 147mm deep, the EP11-H is one of the slimmest 10kWh batteries available. It was wall-mounted in this install to keep the floor area clear.
- 100% Usable Capacity: Unlike older battery technologies, the EP11 series allows for a high depth of discharge, ensuring Mrs Manson can access the full 10.36kWh of stored energy every day.
The Result
This 5.52kWp in-roof system provides a stunning visual upgrade to the property while delivering serious energy independence. With 10.36kWh of heated storage, the home is now protected against rising energy prices and is fully capable of running through the evening on clean, self-generated solar power.
